Lawrence Turman was an Academy Award-nominated film producer and professor at the University of Southern California. He is best known for producing the film The Graduate.
In February 2014, Turman was invited onto the movie review show On Cinema at the Cinema as a guest by show creator Tim Heidecker for episode S04E06. Heidecker, unable to attend for medical reasons, had Turman on as a guest for temporary host Gregg Turkington. Turman and Turkington had an amicable disagreement about the quality of current movies during the episode, with Turman participating in that week's edition of Popcorn Classics.
Turkington later stated that while Turman had “some of his facts wrong,” and that he wouldn't invite him back, he was an improvement over previous guests such as Dr. San and Ayaka Ohwaki. Heidecker also stated that Turman was the most popular guest they had had on the show, though the poll that he cited was not specified.[2]
Turman later joined the crew of the 2nd Annual On Cinema Oscar Special, stationed at the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre to interview celebrities for the special. Unfortunately, Turman's connection back to the studio could not be established, and his segments were unaired.
Turman passed away on July 1st, 2023, at the age of 96.[1]
