The Academy Awards, often referred to as the Oscars or simply Oscar, is a movie awards show hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Every year, On Cinema host an annual Oscar Special to cover the event.

Though Oscar's word is final, some movie buffs feel that occasionally Oscar gets it wrong.

Early on in On Cinema at the Cinema, host Tim Heidecker and frequent guest Gregg Turkington would give official "Oscar Picks," which were represented by a small Oscar statuette.

Starting in 2013, On Cinema began hosting an annual Oscar Special, which would air during commercial breaks occurring during the actual Oscar broadcast. During these specials, Tim and Gregg would make predictions about not just potential award winners, but for tactics Oscar might use to increase failing ratings. For example, during the 1st Annual On Cinema Oscar Special, Gregg predicted a write-in Best Picture win for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Tim predicted that host Seth MacFarlane would step down to reveal the event was actual being hosted by Billy Crystal.

Gregg once predicted that following the death of actor Jonathan Winters in 2013, Oscar would implement a “Best Comic Actor” category in his honor, similar to the Golden Globes.^[1]
