On Cinema at the Cinema is a highly popular movie review show hosted by Tim Heidecker, with frequent guest appearances by Gregg Turkington, and is the flagship program of the On Cinema media franchise. A spin-off of the original On Cinema podcast, On Cinema at the Cinema ran for 12 seasons on Thing X, Adult Swim and the HEI Network before it was replaced by On Cinema and More! In the Morning.
It was initially conceived to run parallel to the podcast, with the podcast going on hiatus while At the Cinema was airing, and returning between seasons of the web show.[1] However, At the Cinema quickly overtook the podcast in popularity, and became the flagship program, synonymous with On Cinema as a whole.
While the podcast focused mainly on retrospectives of classic movies, At the Cinema gave reviews and discussions of movies coming out that week, and featured a number of segments created by Turkington including Popcorn Classics and On Cinema On Location. Movies were rated on a proprietary popcorn scale, where films could be given anywhere between 1 to 5 bags of popcorn as an indicator of quality.
The official uniform of the show, designed by Turkington, is a “popcorn butter yellow” polo shirt with the host or guest's name embroidered on the left breast, and “On Cinema at the Cinema” embroidered on the right.[2]
After two seasons, Thing X shuttered, and On Cinema at the Cinema was absorbed by Adult Swim's streaming department, where the show was hosted until season 12.
The theme song to the show is Enjoy the Show, a stock track. A dramatic remix was used for the opening to season 12.
