Host Gregg Turkington introduces a new guest and reflects on a classic comedy of yesteryear.

Proudly sporting his popcorn-butter-yellow On Cinema polo, Gregg welcomes the viewers to the premiere episode of Gregg Turkington's On Cinema at the Cinema. For the new guest, he states that he “went through a lot of applications” to find the best possible sidekick, and eventually settled on…Gregg Turkington! The camera zooms out to reveal a television with a built-in VCR, sitting in the guest seat propped up on a cardboard box. Gregg grabs a remote and hits play, and “Gregg” introduces himself. He also announces that he has completed his world record attempt, and exceeded it by one film, thereby achieving 501 Movies in 501 Days.

First up is Jupiter Ascending. Gregg opines that the film is “the epitome” of a popcorn movie, and as it was made by the same folks who made The Matrix, he predicts it will spawn sequels. Gregg agrees, although he advises the viewers to go see it with a friend, as its gets “a little scary.” Both award it five bags.

For The Spongebob Movie, Gregg calls Spongebob “an American institution,” and is thrilled that he is now on the big screen, “where he belongs.” Gregg observes a new trend of TV and cartoon characters being made into movie characters, and says we should “keep our eye” on it.

Gregg debuts a new segment, Golden Age Comedies, a twist on Popcorn Classics. Mark Proksch appears in black-and-white as W.C. Fields, and introduces today's Golden Age Comedies selection, Home Fries (1998, 91 mins) starring Drew Barrymore and Luke Wilson. He says he loves the film, although it's a bit too risqué for the little ones, unlike a Mae West film.

Gregg closes on an optimistic note, given the high expectations for the show over the next few years. Gregg signs off as well, although his face disappears and is suddenly replaced by footage of a somewhat provocative exercise video.

• Jupiter Ascending is the only film to have been reviewed in two On Cinema episodes. It was previous reviewed in S5E03.
• In the YouTube comments section of this episode, Tim expressed outrage over Gregg's performance as host, vowing that “the hornets are going to strike” and “I'm going to have to do something I never thought i'd have to do - and it's going to be painful.” It is unclear what exactly he had in mind, unless he was referring to his eventual return to the show and retaking of the host's seat from Gregg.
