Thing X was a content aggregate website run by Adult Swim. The site featured original videos and articles. It launched October 17, 2012.[1]
After the success of the On Cinema podcast, Thing X worked with series creator Tim Heidecker to devise a video version of the podcast, On Cinema at the Cinema. The original uploads of the first two seasons were hosted on the Thing X website. They also prominently sponsored the 1st Annual On Cinema Oscar Special.
The site was absorbed into Adult Swim's own website June 18, 2013, less than a year later.[2] The first two seasons of On Cinema at the Cinema were eventually re-hosted on Thing X's YouTube channel, and Adult Swim's website.
[META] History
Thing X was a satirical website from Adult Swim and various former staff members of The Onion.
Initially after the closure of Thing X, it was business as usual for the site's articles and other video content, though by 2016, On Cinema at the Cinema was all that remained from the experiment. Adult Swim would continue to carry On Cinema until 2020, when Adult Swim's digital department was gutted. HEI Network launched in its wake.
