On Cinema On Popcorn
On Cinema On Popcorn is a segment of the movie review show On Cinema at the Cinema. It was created by frequent guest Gregg Turkington and took host Tim Heidecker through various popcorn brands to judge the different flavors that each had to offer. It aired during S03E03, and appeared to be filmed inside the studio's kitchen.
A variant of the popcorn rating scale was used, rating the popcorn on a scale from 0-5 video tapes as an inverse of the standard 1-5 bag ratings.
Tim would clear his palette with a barbeque potato chip and a sip of water between tastes of popcorn. The brands tested were Orville Redenbacher's, Pop Secret, and a generic store brand of pre-popped popcorn.
Tim was unable to discern a difference between Orville Redenbacher's and Pop Secret's popcorn, though he did note that the Pop Secret may have been slightly burnt. Tim felt that the generic brand was a bit too dry and unflavored compared to the other two. Tim's personal favorite was Orville Redenbacher's. Gregg's personal favorite was the generic pre-popped brand, though he did say that the fact that he did not have a microwave at the time of filming was a factor in his choice. He also posited that popcorn popped directly at the movie theater trumped all three.
