Chaplin's X-Press

Chaplin's X-Press was the third iteration of the Chaplin's Chili brand, following the re-acquisition of the Chaplin's Soups and Subs brand by the original restaurant, and the second iteration owned by Levinsons Acquisitions. Levinsons, the former owners of Chaplin's Soups and Subs, started Chaplin's X-Press as a successor to the Soups and Subs brand, after a lawsuit caused them to return ownership of that brand back to Chaplin's Chili. It opened 35 locations within gas stations throughout southern California, marketing itself on “food on the go,” and targeting travelers stopping inside the gas stations. Each gas station worked with Chaplin's X-Press to tailor the menu to its client base. It served a stew, the “Five Bean Stew,” that much like the “Three Bean Three-Alarm Chowder” sold by Chaplin's Soups and Subs, was compared to Chaplin's original chili. Employee and spokesman Hank Friedmann continued to insist that the stew and the original Chaplin's chili recipe were distinct.

The chain was the official caterer for the 5th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special and helped to sponsor the special. It had created a virtual Chaplin's X-Press location on the set, with a menu similar to what was found in actual locations. and partnered with an organization known as the Vape Lounge.[1]

Between March 2018 and February 2019, Chaplin's X-Press was facing bankruptcy due to overextending itself into too many locations. It was purchased by QwikBite, which rebranded all X-Press locations to its own branding.[2]
