On Cinema at the Cinema Season 16, Episode 3: "Black Phone 2" and "Blue Moon"

The third episode of On Cinema at the Cinema's sixteenth season features host New Heidecker and guest Gregg Turkington reviewing Black Phone 2 and Blue Moon. A third review, for After the Hunt, was cut short as New did not remember agreeing to review the movie with Gregg.

In the episode, New demands that Gregg return the movie memorabilia intended to be used in the production of the pepboys movie to G. Amato, while Gregg recommends the film Ghetto Dawg on ”Popcorn Classics” and promotes new “: The Movie” stickers available from the Victorville Film Archives. At the end, New teases a revamped format for the following episode, to Gregg's confusion.

• Gregg's clothing this episode includes a white hat featuring a taped on logo for Hanging Up (2000, 94 mins.) and a dark blue shirt featuring the poster for The Deal (2008, 100 mins.).
  • Hanging Up was directed by Diane Keaton from Annie Hall, who also starred in the movie. It was her last directorial effort before her death on October 11, 2025, 4 days before the release of this episode.
• This is the first episode in which Gregg does his “Popcorn Classics” segment before reviewing the films.
• Ghetto Dawg: The Movie is a rare instance of Gregg not particularly enjoying a film he has selected a Popcorn Classic, calling it “unpleasant”.
• With New asking for a break to sleep in the middle of the episode, this is the first time either him or Gregg have acknowledged that On Cinema at the Cinema is not live (or at least live-to-tape).
  • Gregg has mentioned editing stuff in post before, as with replacing Joey's star ratings with popcorn bags in an episode of On Cinema On Demand, but this could be taken as the show being edited after airing.
