Dee Thompson is an author and actor known for sneaking into the 69th Academy Awards without a ticket in 1997. He wrote a book about his experience, How I Went to the Oscars Without a Ticket, and drives around Hollywood in a car themed after the cover of his book.
Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington interviewed Thompson on the 4th Oscar Special. Thompson said that, as an aspiring actor, he walked to where the Oscars were taking place to hand out copies of his headshot, and a stranger noticed him and brought him along to the ceremony. Later, he was taken home in a limousine. He also said he worked for the Oscars as a stand-in for ceremony rehearsals, and “received” four Oscars, including those for Martin Scorcese, Harrison Ford, and Cameron Diaz. Gregg was fascinated with his exploits, although Tim attempted to redirect the conversation to racial politics. Thompson also described the purpose of his book as “faith-based” and inspirational.
He appeared in Season 6, Episode 2 of Decker, as Captain Dee.
Thompson was brought back for the 5th Oscar Special as a live on-site reporter, and attempted to re-create his feat by getting into the 90th Academy Awards without a ticket. He was unsuccessful, and on the live camera feed it appeared that he was simply hawking his book instead of making a genuine attempt to gain entry to the ceremony. Tim noted that his t-shirt, emblazoned with the cover of his book, was certain to prevent him from entering.
