The 4th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special was an Oscar Special streamed live on March 2, 2016. Tim Heidecker, Gregg Turkington, and special guests return to celebrate Hollywood's glitziest night.

Synopsis

The show opens with Dekkar covering the Oscar Fever song. Tim Heidecker then welcomes the viewers and introduces Gregg Turkington, and there is immediate rancor between the two. Gregg is displeased that Tim has invited Dekkar without his knowledge, and Tim forces a half-hearted apology from Gregg for making Decker vs. Dracula. Tim also announces that James Dean will undergo a DNA test to determine his true identity, and that Johnny Depp will make an appearance on the show.

The Special’s sponsor is revealed to be Chaplin's Soups and Subs, represented by Hank Friedmann, who details how Chaplin's Chili was bought out by Levinsons Acquisitions. Gregg then gives his Oscar predictions, declaring that Ant-Man was the best film of the year, and either it or Decker vs. Dracula will win the “write-in vote.” Tim contends that Fantastic Four should win over Ant-Man, and starts a Twitter poll to validate this. Gregg starts his own poll in response.

The first video segment of the night then airs, featuring Gregg’s tour of the Dolby Theatre. The segment ends with a jab at Fantastic Four, leaving Tim unamused. After a break, Gregg introduces a popcorn classic, Kuffs (1991, 1 hour 42 minutes). Mark Proksch, with a conspicuous bandage over his nose, does his first impression of the night as Groucho Marx, only to be interrupted by Tim, who says he is supposed to be doing Chico Marx. The crew gets Mark into the proper costuming, and he resumes the routine as Chico. Tim and Gregg then compare the results of their Twitter polls, each favoring their own Oscar picks, and Tim snaps at the crew not to show Gregg’s polls on the air.

After another break, Dekkar premieres Tim’s new song, a medley based on the names of Oscar-nominated films and actors. Tim and Gregg then discuss the upcoming DNA test of James Dean, and interview Dr. San, who will conduct the test throughout the course of the show. Following this, the first annual Oscar Olympics begin, with Joe Estevez as referee, and two teams of Ant-heads (Ant-Man fans) and Four-heads (Fantastic Four fans). The first event is the “Lord of the Rings Toss,” which is won by the Ant-heads, despite Tim’s attempt to disrupt them by throwing sandwiches.

Tim and Gregg interview Dee Thompson, a man who snuck into the 1997 Academy Awards ceremony, and author of the book “How I Went to the Oscars Without a Ticket.” Tim directs the conversation towards race issues, and attempts to call Dr. Ben Carson, who does not answer. While Gregg talks movies with Thompson, Tim gets up to berate the crew before returning to finish the interview. Next, Mark does his Groucho Marx routine. Tim is unimpressed, scolding Mark for his Groucho impression being too similar to W.C. Fields.

After the break, Tim asks Gregg what the future holds for Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, only to interrupt Gregg and air a segment which is edited to make Peter Jackson appear to be an alcoholic. Tim then joins Dekkar for a segment called On Cinema On Songwriters, featuring a cover of their song “Empty Bottle.”

Tim checks in with Dr. San after the break, taunting James Dean in the process. He then turns it over to Gregg for a tribute to 50 years of James Bond. Gregg appears in front of a green screen on which stills from Bond films are displayed, and fires a dummy pistol in various poses. Tim, enraged, interrupts the segment to demand that Gregg explain what is happening. Gregg loses his patience and angrily tells Tim he has ruined the segment, as well as the whole Special, due to his “rageaholism” and “horrible music.” A prolonged, heated argument between the two ensues, although Tim allows Gregg to continue the segment while explaining the images on the green screen.

After sending Gregg off set, Tim addresses “the elephant in the room,” namely his deceased son, Tom Cruise Heidecker, Jr., and brings Ayaka Ohwaki on set. Tim tells her that baby Tom has returned, and a poorly rendered animation of a teenager appears. “Tom” reveals that he has grown up to be a successful actor and model, and considers Tim a role model. Tim then announces the establishment of a “Memorial Arts Fund” named after TCH Jr., and its first recipient is Decker. Tim vows to “make Decker great again” in his son’s memory.

The next event in the Oscar Olympics commences; this time, both teams must correctly label as many of Gregg’s VHS tapes as possible in three minutes, using Gregg’s Victorville Film Archives coding system. Tim continually throws food at the contestants. Mark tries to stop Tim from disrupting the game, causing Tim to bully Mark around the set. Tim puts a stop to the contest with the score tied at three tapes apiece, and declares the Four-heads the winner despite Gregg’s protests.

Dr. San announces that the DNA test results are in. Another attempt to talk to Dr. Ben Carson fails, and Johnny Depp is apparently a no-show as well. Mark does his Harpo Marx routine, which Tim talks over, remarking that Mark is again “slipping into Fields” and demanding that the crew give him a prop horn. After Mark’s routine, Tim has him do an impromptu impression of Indiana Jones. Manuel and Axiom perform “You Are The One” before the break.

Gregg introduces a special popcorn classic, the VHS edition of Decker vs. Dracula. Following this, the third and final event in the Oscar Olympics begins: the first team to pop and fill five bags of popcorn wins. Joe declares Ant-heads the winner after Tim demands an early end to the game. Following the game, Tim makes a political statement against Joe Biden by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and airs a music video of “Empty Bottle,” featuring a Decker montage.

After the final break, Tim and Gregg thank Hank with Chaplin’s Soups & Subs once more, and then the floor is given to Gregg for his surprise finale. He raises a curtain to reveal four actors in a statue-like recreation of the painting “Legal Action,” which depicts James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, and Elvis Presley surrounding a pool table. Gregg calls it a “living painting,” though Tim finds it pointless and argues with Gregg about its merit.

Finally, it comes time to reveal the results of the DNA test. Dr. San comes out on stage with an envelope containing the results. Tim opens it to reveal that the DNA samples match, proving that James Dean has in fact returned. The studio breaks into applause, and Gregg has Mr. Dean pose at the pool table in the “live painting.” A humiliated Tim leaves the set, only to storm back in as the credits roll and kick out Dr. San, shouting in his face as he walks out the door.
