Tim and Gregg review 'Rings' and the heartfelt, deeply dramatic 'By the Sea'.
Synopsis
The upbeat, casino-themed intro is suddenly interrupted to reveal a tearful Tim, who announces that today's episode will not be about movies, but instead about his son, Tom Cruise Heidecker Jr., who died over the weekend. On the panel today is Gregg Turkington, who compares the sadness he feels to several tearjerker movies, and tells Tim he will give him a selection of movies to help him deal with the grief. Tim thanks Gregg for his support despite their “blowout” a couple weeks ago. Axiom is also present today; Tim describes him as his “rock.” Finally, Tim introduces Dr. San. Tim thanks the doc for doing all he could for Tom. Dr. San says he tried everything, from foraging for herbs, to using magnets to “pull the iron his blood back into alignment,” as well as using “so many needles.” Gregg opines they could have taken Tom “to a real doctor,” but Dr. San retorts that the hospital is where most illnesses are contracted in the first place.
A bitter Gregg doubles down, bluntly telling Dr. San that Tom might still be alive had he been treated at the hospital instead of with fridge magnets, but Dr. San insists that would have hastened the child's demise. Tim then offers his own opinion, blaming the vaccines Tom received at birth, as well as the black mold in their home when they moved in; Dr. San agrees. Tim then airs a video montage tribute to Tom, which includes some of his Decker scenes as well as On Cinema appearances. After the tribute, Tim asks Gregg his opinion on Tom's potential as an actor; Gregg says Tom would have nailed his scenes in Decker vs. Dracula had they had the opportunity to shoot them. Tim then reveals a shirt that was bought for Tom, emblazoned with “My Dad is the Man!”
Tim decides to “quickly do the movies,” and pulls out the cards. They start with By the Sea, featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Tim, understandably, has not seen it, but Gregg has, and gives it five bags; Tim concurs. He then wonders aloud if they should have even done this episode today, but he declares that talking about the tragedy is therapeutic and “honors” Tom Cruise.
The panel closes out the show with a song in Tom's memory, featuring Tim on vocals and bass guitar, Axiom on vocals and tambourine, and Dr. San on flute.
