The On Cinema Christmas Special is an bonus episode released between Season 3 and Season 4 of On Cinema at the Cinema. The episode featured two film reviews and a Popcorn Classics, much like a standard episode, plus an exchange of gifts between Tim and Gregg.

Synopsis

Tim introduces the show and his guest, Gregg Turkington, who wishes the viewers “Happy Hobbit-Days.” Tim is swift to remind the audience of the importance of “Merry Christmas” instead “Happy Holidays” and other such secular salutations. He also reveals that he was recently recognized by a fan in Florida, who took him to a boot store and had him fitted for a pair of black ostrich cowboy boots.

The first film up for review is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, starring Morgan..er, Martin Freeman. Tim gives the film five bags right out of the gate, and picks it to win an Oscar. Gregg says the film is, in the spirit of Christmas, a “gift” to the world from Peter Jackson. His only disappointment is that the film did not come out earlier, and he picks it to win an Oscar as well. He further predicts that the first Hobbit film may “retroactively” earn Jackson a “Lifetime Achievement Award,” and tells of a dream he had in which Bilbo Baggins was Santa Claus, saying it would make a good commercial for the film.

Next up is A Madea Christmas, directed by and starring the Tyler Perry. Tim struggles to read the card due to an “Indian name” and just difficult words in general. Gregg says he was “distracted” watching it due to having just seen The Hobbit, but still enjoyed it. Tim says he gives it five bags, as it is “the first black Christmas movie,” comparing it to a “black” version of A Christmas Carol. Gregg is a bit confused by this, noting that Larry the Cable Guy is in it, and is not black. He gives it five bags, however, and a set of blinders to keep him from thinking about The Hobbit.

Today's Popcorn Classics is a Tim Allen film, Christmas with the Kranks, featuring a stellar cast and based on a John Grisham novel, “Skipping Christmas.” Tim and Gregg wish a Merry Christmas to Tim Allen and the always-beautiful Jamie Lee Curtis.

The show closes with the On Cinema Gift Exchange. Tim's gift to Gregg is a Blu-Ray player. Gregg asks if it has a VHS opening, which it does not, but Gregg says it is “cool,” even if he isn't quite ready to switch from VHS to Blu-Ray. Tim also gives Gregg an assortment of Blu-Ray films to start his collection, although Gregg says he may have to put them in storage since his shelves are designed for VHS tapes. Gregg's gift to Tim is a brand-new, official On Cinema at the Cinema baseball cap, as well as a replacement popcorn-butter-yellow polo shirt embroidered with Tim's name and the show name. Tim rolls his eyes, and seems dissatisfied with the presentation, but thanks Gregg anyway. Gregg encourages Tim to try the hat on, but Tim does not want to muss his hair. Neither seems satisfied with their gifts, but they remain polite anyway.
