Again with Bruce Willis! Again with The Rock! Again with Channing Tatum! Throw in the real Tyler Perry and Jimmy McNichol and you've got a star-studded episode of On Cinema At The Cinema.
Tim's guest today is Ayaka Ohwaki, an exchange student from Japan who is staying with Tim's family. Tim has invited her to “get a foreign perspective on movies.”
The first film up for review is G.I. Joe: Retaliation, featuring some of Tim's favorite actors including Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, and Channing Tatum. He awards the film five bags. Ayaka gives one bag and five sodas; when Tim asks for clarification, she says she is “not a big fan of popcorn.” Tim gently corrects her that the popcorn bags are not for eating, but for ratings, like stars. She amends her review to four stars, which Tim converts to bags. She also says she couldn't understand the film due to the language barrier.
Next up is Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, which Tim says is not his kind of movie. He says it was “ok” and well-made, and awards it four bags. Ayaka awards it three bags, calling the film “average.”
A segment of Popcorn Classics Behind the Curtain airs, featuring Gregg Turkington's interview with Jimmy McNichol. Gregg focuses the interview on the film Smokey Bites the Dust (1981, 87 minutes), in which Jimmy starred. Jimmy says he owns three copies of the film, and was given a copy after the film's release. As to Smokey Bites the Dust's status as a Popcorn Classic, he says it has “a lot of thrills and action.” Gregg asks a few more questions about DVDs, film criticism, and Jimmy's musical career, and his popcorn preferences.
