The very first episode of the On Cinema podcast and the beginning of the entire On Cinema franchise was released on October 5, 2011. The debut episode has host Tim Heidecker and first-time guest Gregg Turkington review the 1984 classic Ghostbusters.
Tim celebrates the 20th anniversary of Ghostbusters with guest and “film buff” Gregg Turkington. Tim praises Ivan Reitman, Bill Murray, and Dan Akyroyd, calling the film a landmark 80s film in terms of comedies. Gregg calls the film a classic and notes just how popular the film was at the time. Tim, having rewatched the film lately, notes his shock at just how funny and original the film was, with Gregg noting it was the first movie like that. They note that the film has not received any Academy Awards, with Gregg stating that sometimes the Academy sometimes makes the wrong decisions. Tim thanks the viewer for listening and ends the program.
