The First Ever Film Buff's Movie Scavenger Hunt On-Line Event
The First Ever Film Buff's Movie Scavenger Hunt On-Line Event was an online movie trivia activity hosted by Gregg Turkington on the HEI Network from June 27 to September 3, 2024.
The scavenger hunt was presented in nine weekly installments, in which Gregg would appear at a filming location for a certain movie (similar to On Cinema On Location) and introduce a trivia question to the viewers. The first six questions were multiple choice, and the letters of the correct answers constituted a code for the participants to unscramble. The final three questions consisted of fill-in-the-blank answers. Contestants were only allowed one answer attempt every 24 hours.
The first contestant to correctly answer the Week 9 clue won a Grand Prize, a collectable flour sifter prop from the Ma & Pa Kettle films. In addition, all participants were entered into a random drawing for three signed VHS tapes from the Victorville Film Archives, and earned a Popcorn Badge next to their names on the HEI Network.
Controversy
The answers for weeks 8 and 9 aroused indignation among users on the HEI Network and external message boards, due to the required answers' incorrect punctuation.
Tim Heidecker, in an article on the HEI Network entitled “A Warning to Gregg [Turkington],” described the scavenger hunt as a “big waste of [t]ime” and a misuse of HEI Network resources.[1]
