The buffs weigh in on the latest from the Smurfs. Also, Tim bravely faces the world.
Synopsis
Today, Tim is wearing a blank white “self-lubricating” mask, after his successful skin graft surgery. He plans to reveal his new face to the world at the end of the episode. Today's guest, Gregg Turkington, has a new segment debuting as well, called Road to Hollywood. Tim also announces the return of Decker; he plans to start shooting as soon as tomorrow. Finally, he announces the Electric Sun Desert Music Festival, to take place in three weeks in Apple Valley. Gregg offers to set up a movie tent, but Tim shoots down the idea. Mark Proksch comes out to take Tim's order, but he decides not to order anything due to the mask. Incensed, however, by Gregg's latest violation of the outside food policy, Tim tells Mark to take Gregg's popcorn away. When Mark hesitates, Tim reaches over and takes care of the offending victuals himself.
Smurfs: The Lost Village gets high marks from Tim, who calls it the best Smurfs film to date; he is “psyched to be part of the Smurfs Revolution.” Gregg notes the new voice actor for Papa Smurf, replacing the late Jonathan Winters from It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963, 192 mins). He concurs with Tim's rating. For The Case for Christ, Tim says it is a movie he would see “again and again.” Gregg says the word “Case” made him think of a detective movie. He says it's more of a “religious film” than a movie, and not his kind of film, but still found it “quite enjoyable” to watch.
Next up is Gregg's new segment, Road to Hollywood, where he retraces the steps various stars took on their way to Hollywood. Today's segment focuses on Clark Gable. The segment shows dashcam footage of Gregg driving towards Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, just as Clark Gable did on his way from his native Ohio to Hollywood. Tim is critical of the segment's audio quality, leading to some acerbic remarks from Gregg about DKR.
It's finally time for Tim's big reveal; Gregg scurries off set. Tim's wife Juliana comes out on set, as does Tim's skin donor, Manuel. Manuel says the procedure was “a little painful, but it was worth it for a brother.” He reveals the skin graft was taken from his lower back…essentially, his rear end. Finally, Tim pulls off the mask. Juliana says, “Looks good.” Tim asks for a mirror; Mark brings back a reflective serving tray, and Tim takes in his new visage. Tearfully, he remarks, “I'm so happy,” and the episode ends with hugs all around.
