Tim and Gregg give a five-bag summer blockbuster recap and discuss whether or not John Goodman is a true “man of the blues.”

Synopsis

Tim welcomes the viewers to the start of a new season, and introduces his special guest, Gregg Turkington. Gregg provides an update on his 500 Movies in 500 Days campaign, revealing that he lost his list of watched films and had to start from scratch. He has watched 141 movies since then, however, in addition to the 127 movies on his original list, and he hopes he will find the list so he can combine their numbers. As for Tim, he announces he moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and purchased a Kawasaki motorcycle. He now sports a 5 o'clock shadow, which Gregg says makes him look like Orson Welles. Before jumping into the movies, Tim reads off a list of films released over the summer that he and Gregg rated at five bags of popcorn.

The first review of the season is a horror film, Deliver Us from Evil, which Tim describes as the kind of horror movie he loves, and rates it five bags. Gregg compares it to The Exorcist (1973, 122 mins) if it were set in New York City, and awards it five SCARY bags of popcorn. He recommends against seeing the film at night, as walking back to your car will be scary.

Tammy, a comedy movie, features Dan Aykroyd, which Gregg says is “kinda cool” since it is the 35th anniversary of The Blues Brothers (1980, 133 mins). Tim says he laughed all the way through the film. Gregg wishes the film featured more music, especially given Aykroyd's harmonica skills, but still found it “very, very funny.” Tim (somewhat backhandedly) praises Melissa McCarthy's comedic presence, and Gregg agrees she could be a “Blues Sister.” Tim gives it six bags, to Gregg's five.

In the spirit of the 35th anniversary of The Blues Brothers, Gregg dons a fedora and a pair of sunglasses and introduces his Popcorn Classics selection, Blues Brothers 2000. Tim interrupts to state that he hates the film, stating John Goodman is “not a Blues Brother,” and that Jim Belushi (the late John Belushi's brother) should have been offered the part. Gregg disagrees, saying Goodman is a legitimate Blues Brother. He loves the film, saying “it will cure the blues,” and claims it is better than the original.

At the end of the show, Tim announces that a Decker miniseries is soon to be released. After the lights darken, Tim castigates Gregg for his behavior and his Popcorn Classics selection, saying that it “doesn't belong on this show” and that he needs to start clearing selections with him.
