No spoilers on this week's episode, but you will not believe the ending of the remake of “Carrie.” And Popcorn Classics returns with not one but two classic video recommendations, because Tim and Gregg can't quite agree.
Tim and Gregg begin by praising the “class of 2013” in the world of movies, while also acknowledging the greatness of 2012. Tim says he can't wait for Jack Reacher to come out on video; Gregg says he wasn't as big a fan of that one, but Tim jumps straight into today's reviews before any drama can begin.
Carrie is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name; Tim reiterates that he loves remakes, believing this one is better than the original. Gregg declines to say much about it, as he does not want to give away the ending. Tim presses him for a more in-depth review, but Gregg refuses to elaborate, leaving it at “it's a scary movie” and “you will not believe the ending.” A somewhat irritated Tim awards the film four bags; Gregg says to “wait and see” for his rating, further rankling Tim. Gregg finally gives it five bags of popcorn, although he “cloaks” them around a curtain.
The next film is The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. Tim finds the film very funny, enjoying the performances of Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell, and declares it his favorite Jim Carrey movie. Gregg also appreciates the film's humor, but says it also “has a message.” He picks Jim Carrey to win an Oscar, believing the film to be his all-time best performance. Tim also says that although he doesn't like magic, this film made him appreciate it. They air a list of theaters where The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is playing, for the viewers' benefit.
For Popcorn Classics, Gregg has brought in The Mod Squad (1999, 92 mins). He calls it a “pretty flashy movie.” Tim interrupts, saying he doesn't recommend the movie, and introduces a tape of his own, Dennis Miller Live, featuring one of his favorite comedians. Gregg objects, arguing that the tape is not a movie but a TV show, but Tim insists on mixing things up once in a while. Gregg stands by his selection, but Tim advises the viewers to watch his own instead. The two start to bicker about the merits of their selections, Tim reading the catchphrases and rave reviews from his tape box, and Gregg insisting that it is not a movie. “It's my segment,” Gregg spits. “It's my show,” Tim counters.
