Gregg and non-VHS formats

On Cinema guest Gregg Turkington is well known for his promotion of VHS as a format. However, his original movie collection at one point contained DVDs as well as VHS tapes.

In late 2012, Gregg had a Netflix subscription,^[1] which at the time allowed for users to both stream video and rent DVDs. It's unclear which Netflix service Gregg primarily used.

For Christmas 2013, On Cinema host Tim Heidecker gave Gregg a Blu-ray player and a collection of compatible films. Gregg was thankful but hesitant about the gift, stating that since his collection was mostly VHS, and his shelving was built for those dimensions, he wasn't “quite ready to make the switch over.”^[2]

• In Podcast Episode 4: "Carlito's Way", Gregg primarily mentioned having searched for a DVD copy of the film Carlito's Way, though he also mentioned off-hand that he had a VHS player.
• In Podcast Episode 15: "Misery", Gregg proudly stated he watched the film Misery twice, once on VHS and once on DVD.
• In Podcast Episode 29: "The Three Stooges", Gregg states that he can't wait to get the DVD of The Three Stooges.

• In Podcast Episode 31: "An Officer and a Gentleman", Gregg mentions that he has friends lend him DVDs, and he in turn lends VHS tapes or DVDs to his friends.
• In Podcast Episode 36: "300", Gregg promotes Netflix and its DVD rental service as a more convenient way to watch movies than going to a movie store.
• In Podcast Episode 45: James Bond, Gregg mentions that The World is Not Enough is available as part of a James Bond DVD box set.
• In Podcast Episode 47: "Runaway Train", Gregg suggests DVD as a way to watch Runaway Train.
• In On Cinema at the Cinema Season 1 Episode 1: "The Man With the Iron Fists" and "Flight", Gregg mentions DVD as a way to watch that episode's Popcorn Classic, Multiplicity.
• In On Cinema at the Cinema Season 1 Episode 6: "Playing for Keeps" and "Hyde Park on Hudson", Gregg considers picking up a copy of Playing for Keeps when it releases on DVD.

• In Podcast Episode 31: "An Officer and a Gentleman", Gregg mentions that older movies don't come out on DVD, leaving VHS the only format to find such films.

• In Podcast Episode 6: Lethal Weapon Trilogy, Gregg immediately recommended Blu-ray as the format to purchase the Lethal Weapon trilogy on home video, even recommending Best Buy as a location to purchase a player and movies.
• In Podcast Episode 29: "The Three Stooges", Gregg, excited for the DVD release, mentions that considering how long it may take for The Three Stooges to come to home video, it may instead come out on Blu-ray.
• In Podcast Episode 34: "The Hunt for Red October", Tim alludes that Gregg was on the fence about potentially expanding his collection to include Blu-ray, which Gregg was tentatively supportive of, but didn't feel an immediate need to.
