Busy episode with two fresh reviews and a look at a Victorville landmark. Plus we revisit a couple Popcorn Classics.
Synopsis
A rather morose Gregg introduces the show, and says he is a little "stunned." He reveals that there was a fire at the vfa, caused by tim falling asleep while lighting a cigarette and igniting a blanket. Tim will survive, but is in the hospital for first and third degree burns. For today, Gregg has Mark Prushk as his guest. As for the VFA, it appears to be a total loss, including most of Gregg's personal items. But Gregg vows that the VFA "will rebuild" and asks the viewers to donate any tapes; meanwhile, the nightly movie screenings will continue as those tapes were safe at the vfc. It will be tough going forward; Mark will take on more responsibilities at the Center, but Tim's disfigurement casts the future of //Decker// into doubt.
Gregg and Mark review the movies despite the rueful atmosphere, starting with //Solace//. Gregg says it is a clear post-//Decker// spy film, albeit with an FBI agent instead of a CIA agent (and Decker would simply have burned down FBI headquarters anyway). It is "fantastic", however, and deserving of five bags. Mark only saw the last half of the film due to having to cover his coworker's shift, but loved what he saw.
//The Light Between Oceans// is about a baby discovered adrift in the ocean, which reminds Gregg of Tim and Ayaka's baby. He awards the film five bags anyway. Mark did not see the film.
For onlocation, Gregg is in Victorville once again, standing in front of a rock formation over which flying saucers fly in //It Came from Outer Space// (1953, 80 mins). After this, for popcornclassics, Gregg shows two movies due to be screened at the Center. The first, //Holiday Heart//, is essentially a "filmed play." Saturday's showing will be //The Wood//, an "unforgettable tale of laughs." Gregg closes the episode on a not-very-optimistic note, wondering how the show will continue. He wanted to have Mark do a goldenagecomedies, but its lighthearted nature would be out of place today.
