Tim and Gregg review two highly-anticipated films. Plus, Gregg grants unprecedented access to the Victorville Film Center.
Synopsis
Tim is flanked by two guests today- his co-host Gregg, and bandmate (and his "rock") axiom. Tim reveals that he has had some "lapses" over the past week and requires around-the-clock attention, which he receives from Axiom. dekkar has been enjoying the "Victorville scene," writing lots of music and spending time with family including Axiom's sister, Juliana. Gregg recommends they come to the vfc for the nightly screenings, and enjoy the "creature cookies." Tim floats the idea of turning the theater into a "mixed-use" venue capable of putting on concerts as well; Gregg is not enamored with the idea.
The first movie today, //Ben-Hur//, has some tough-to-pronounce names in the cast, stumping all three guys. Tim considers it a worthy remake of the original Charles Heston film, and awards it five bags. Gregg considers it an improvement on the original, especially where technology and pacing are concerned, and picks it to win the same amount of Oscars (15) as the original.
For //Kuba and the Two Strings//, Tim seems rather uncomfortable reading the synopsis. He suddenly dashes offstage to relieve his irritated bowels, as he had previously sent Axiom offstage to fetch his Imodium. During Tim's brief escapade, Gregg gives a positive review of the movie, saying he loved the animation and the characters (though not as much as the baby carrots from last week). Tim rushes back to his seat just after Gregg awards the coveted five bags to the film.
For onlocation, Gregg shows a behind-the-scenes look at "Victorville's newest and best movie theater," the VFC. The segment begins in the projection booth, where Gregg shows off the 35mm film projector, which unfortunately has had its wires chewed up by rats. Rather than repair or replace it, the Center has invested in a "VHS projection system" consisting of a VCR and a projector. He demonstrates it with a tape of Decker vs. Dracula, "the way it was meant to be seen." Next, Gregg interviews the Center's "popcorn jockey," mark. Gregg asks what his favorite popcorn movie is; Mark replies "the one with Sandra Bullock and the mailbox" (//The Net//, 1995, 114 mins). Mark says he loves working there, but hates the drive, and is frustrated by his coworker Alex always calling in. Gregg finishes by asking Mark to share his recipe for the perfect bucket of popcorn; Mark says he doesn't eat popcorn at home, preferring pretzels for a movie snack, and when working at the VFC only follows the instructions on the machines.
