The 10th Annual On Cinema Oscar Special aired on Sunday, March 12, 2023 on heinetwork, and celebrated The King of Movies, gregg. tim returned as host, with guests joe, Mark Proskch, gamato, kaili, axiom, manuel, dudley, and more.
Synopsis
First draft, was written as Kian watched the live replay on 3/9/24.
The special starts with a rousing musical tribute to Gregg by Tim, "allhailtheking", complete with dancers. After the intro, Tim gives an ode to Gregg before introducing him out on stage. Gregg comes out with a crown and robe on, and states his pleasure with Tim finally focusing on the movies. Tim notes the audience here, including various members of amatogroup, Gregg's associates at amc, and axiom and manuel. Tim notes Axiom and Manuel are there for Gregg rather than him, noting that dekkar is currently on hiatus. Gregg is happy at the thought of no Dekkar performances. Tim gifts Gregg two tickets to //Bombadil//, a musical based off a cut character from the //Lord of the Rings// trilogy, to be played by James Corden. Gregg gifts Tim back the flash drive containing the footage of the VFA Tours Van bus crash, stating that he can get rid of it and we can finally move on.
Tim notes tonight is also has a tribute to Pinocchio due to the two excellent movies released in 2022, with Gregg noting that he heard that four more Pinocchio movies would come out in 2023. foreign films, like banshee of irish, removed from contention so they can be nominated at home. tar removed because tar is a nickname of avatar and people got fooled. elvis not going to win because it is under 120 mins. spielberg not getting hte win, top gun 2 and avatar 2 likely to win due to being sequels. avatar 2 is going to win because its longer. gregg predicts members of the marvel creative team will appear on stage when avatar 2, revealing that avatar will be a part of the MCU. tim annoyed that the whale ripped off whaleman, gregg notes how much hollywood had ripped off decker and they continue to rip tim and gregg off. 2023 is the year of 80 for brady, book club 2 also coming out might uhh... gregg sent a letter to the director of the movie noting jane fonda best supporting actress two oscars im in a rut Tim announces that gamato has agreed to an interview later in the special about what happened regarding the heiranch and grainwater. His only stipulation was that larue would not be allowed in the special, Tim agrees, considering him not useful anymore. The first "amatolotto" segment is teased, before going to break.
Tim notes that this year is the 20th anniversary of //Pinocchio 3000//, with Gregg noting it's a great movie to watch during "lesser" holidays. Tim talks to hank and his new venue, tomschili, based off the late tom's original recipe. Hank is serving Wild Hogs Chili (titled after the movie) and chili-flavored popcorn, which Gregg immediately states his dislike for. The first "Amato Lotto" drawing is called, with kaili pulling numbers out of an incredibly loud lottery machine: 35, 64, 36, 11, 78, 56, 72, 54, 43, and 67. Joe Estevez comes out to pay tribute to Gregg, noting his regret in not being involved more in //deckofcards//. Gregg then presents his vision of a world where Elvis Presley was still alive and still making movies, with mark portraying Elvis in such roles like Han Solo, Superman, Inspector Clouseau, Tom Hanks' role in //Sleepless in Seattle//, Steve Martin's role in //Father of the Bride//, and Henry Fonda's role in //On Golden Pond//. Mark tries his best but seems to be unaware of who Inspector Clouseau is, with Tim and Gregg both trying to help. Mark also struggles with portraying the //Seattle//, //Bride//, and //Pond// roles. Gregg attempts to save the segment by getting Mark to portray Elvis as wcfields or a character in //80 for Brady//, but Mark continues to fail. Tim ends the segment, with both him and Gregg chastising him for his lack of studying, Gregg noting that he had sent all these films to Mark in the weeks prior. Kaili presents her first "oscarminute" segment, summarizing the plots of prior //Star Wars// movies. Gregg calls the segment fantastic, not aware there was a "second buff" in the room. Gregg announces the vfn, the Victorville Film Network, a new streaming serivce launching later in the night once the bugs are worked out. Gregg also gives Tim the first password to access the VFN, "bondjamesbond", or "bondjamesbond2". Tim sends the show to break, teasing his upcoming interview with G. Amato.
After the break, a pre-recorded tribute is given by bobbyvalli. Tim's //xposed// interview with G. Amato begins, asking what happened during the Christmas break when Tim suffered a medical emergency, nearly died, and lost all contact with The Amato Group afterwards. G. apologizes for the situation, with his attention fully drawn to a situation in Argentina. G. also apologizes directly to Tim for the removal of the trailer from the HEI Ranch, planning to reverse it. Tim asks what is going on there, though G. refuses to state what. Tim then interrogates G. about what he was actually consuming when he drank the Grain Water, G. says it is under investigation, and that he is very surprised he was able to survive and stay tough and strong. Tim expresses confusion over the Amato association with heipoints, G. calls it incredible and special and that HEI Points will soon be able to be converted into pure lithium, something Tim calls remarkable. G. then says Tim shouldn't have to live in a trailer or Gregg's apartment, saying that he will provide Tim a condo and funding to become a "great and powerful man". Tim gets emotional after G. compares him to chrisamato, calling Tim an adopted son. The interview ends with Tim holding hands with G, and another "Amato Lotto" drawing: 31, 57, 80, 46, 52, 29, 39, 50, 76, and 74.
A pre-recorded segment from Gregg, "forgotton", has him at a graveyard talking about celebrities that are still alive but not particularly well known. Gregg talks about forgotten celebrities like Kelly who, Darrell Hickman, and Jim Dale. Tim's mood has notably shifted, as he calls Gregg's segment "a little over-the-line, a little mean". Tim re-introduces Mark, who Gregg doesn't think should be back on stage after that "terrible" segment", to share the news that he had acquired SD card containing the California-shot footage of the student film //baboon// from chad_and_devin Chad MacDonald and Devin Wagner to adapt it into a movie for heinetwork. Tim then shows a trailer, though he notes 90% of the footage has to be re-shot. Tim has been trying to get Manuel to score the film, though Manuel has not responded. Tim and Mark watch raw footage from //Baboon//, Mark noting that he couldn't really breathe in that mask. Gregg shows off his custom tapes for every Best Picture nominee, and that he'll be stacking category tapes under each film that wins. Gregg tries to get Mark to help, though Tim then tells Gregg not to treat a star like that and that Mark should get back to "his trailer".
Gregg starts to notice that the set's tape carpet is making crunching noises, realizing that the carpet isn't a "simulation" of his tape library but rather his actual tapes, getting damaged by those stepping on it. He starts arguing with Tim over it, with Tim threatening to pull the next segment, a montage of Gregg's work and expertise for the past 10 years. Tim talks to some of the audience members in attendance, asking the AMC employees present what he does at the company. Gregg tries to get them to stop, but sam then talks about how Gregg cleans the posters and the popcorn machine (Gregg objects "at the network"), working part-time 15--20 hours a week. Gregg then goes up to Hank, asking if he can make some real popcorn, calling the chili-flavored popcorn horrible. As the show goes to break, Gregg tries to get the dancers to stop dancing on his tapes, to no avail.
Another pre-recorded tribute features howie, who portrayed Spencer from //Pinocchio 3000//, celebrating 20 years of the film and 10 years of Gregg's expertise. Tim then shows off a birthday cake for the movie, which Tim almost immediately drops onto Gregg's tapes. Kaili introduces corwin, who played a young Jack Decker Jr. on //decker5//, who pays tribute to Gregg. Corwin notes he has his own library of over 300 tapes, thanks to Gregg's advice. Tim invites him over to the chairs, asking him about his father and saying he considers Corwin as a son. Gregg introduces a segment on "Hidden Bonds" in other movies, though Tim tells Gregg to stay over at his throne and disses his appearance in the process. Gregg was set on showing a few dozen more movies, though Tim tells Gregg to cut the segment. Another "Amato Lotto" drawing is done, although Tim winds up disrupting the segment in an attempt to speed it up, unscrewing the number drawer at the top and getting balls flung all over the floor. The numbers drawn were 15, 43, 14, 3, 90, 7, 26, 75, 69, and 15. Another "Oscar Minute" segment is shown, featuring music stars in Hollywood roles. Gregg starts trying to chisel out his tapes from the carpet, though Tim warns that will likely damage his tapes further. Tim throws it to another break, teasing a Manuel and Axiom performance that Gregg does not want.
Axiom and Manuel perform a song about Gregg, though Gregg only focuses on chiseling out his tapes while Tim drinks further. Tim calls the song "well performed" but questions the writing quality. The next "Oscar Minute" segment focuses on recent Hollywood birthdays. Tim asks about Gregg about his finale, with Gregg teasing that the finale fixes something that couldn't have been fixed prior and will "blow your mind". G. returns to stage to announce that Gregg will be able to produce a series of films set in the pepboys cinematic universe, as G. and Kaili hand Gregg an oversized check for $25,000 to fund the movie. G. stated the check was supposed to be for $25,000,000, though Gregg states he might be able to make two Pep Boys films with the lower budget, with Mark being able to play two of the Pep Boys and Joe playing the third. Tim questions the funding and what it means for //Baboon//, with G. writing a check to Tim for $30,000 to fund that. Gregg then announces that the VFN has officially launched, at vfa.expert.
Another pre-recorded tribute to Gregg is shown, featuring adambrown, who portrays ori in //lotr// movies. Tim calls it a waste of $500. Another "Amato Lotto" drawing is done, with the numbers being 77, 26, 27, 64, 15, 67, 8, 23, 48, and 5. dudley and queenofhearts, Gregg's co-stars from //deckofcards//, come out to pay tribute. A montage celebrating Pinocchio, "Pinocchio Through The Years", is presented. pick your pinocchio
During the break, behind the scenes footage is played of Manuel, Mark, and Joe getting their makeup and prosthetics done, the audience eating, and Tim and Gregg talking to each other. An "Oscar Minute" segment about the DC and Marvel rivalry is presented. Once the show returns, Gregg tries to direct his Pinocchio scene with Mark and Joe, although Mark is shown to be stuck mid-air, connected by "marionette strings", with Tim threatening to cut the ropes down if Gregg dares to harm the star of //Baboon//. Joe also claims his script was stolen. Mark is lowered down and let to breathe, while Tim claims Gregg is disqualified due to making Mark sick (even though Mark claims he's fine), with Tim preparing his scene with Manuel and "Dudley". Tim's scene is interrupted by G., who says that he and Tim should play Geppetto and Pinocchio instead. The show goes to break to get Tim and G. in costume.
More behind the scenes footage is shown during the break, with Sam showing Joe something on his phone. Hank also shows Axiom and Manuel something from his phone, with the two becoming visibly upset. Soon, the entire audience is looking on their phones, presumably at the same thing. Once the show returns from break, Tim, now in his Pinocchio costume, notes an issue on set about the VFA Tour Bus crash footage leaking online. Tim and Gregg are both unaware how it leaked, Gregg noting that he had deleted the file off his computer.[(fn:crash>The VFN was just a shared Dropbox folder with a few public domain movies and a selection of issues from //New Movie Magazine//. A folder inside, "BACKUP", contained a couple of more files and a "TRASH" folder. A handful of empty folders were inside, except for the "bcb88f0867ab92bf7fe6cfe5" folder, which contained several video files. Most were unplayable, although one was, being the VFA Tour Bus crash footage. This footage was then posted onto Twitter.)] The footage is then presented on set. In it, Tim starts breathing heavily as he swerves the van into oncoming traffic in what appears to be a suicide attempt, only to turn back and swerve into a ditch. Axiom and Manuel immediately leave the studio. Tim starts breaking down, yanking his prosthetic nose off, saying he doesn't know why he would do that, mentioning that Brendan Fraser won Best Actor. Tim begins trashing the set, knocking down a table, podium, his directors chair, and one of the statues of Gregg, making Gregg run off as Tim yells "Fuck you!" to him. G. starts to console him once Tim lays down directly on the cake-covered tape carpet, yelling "Help me!" and asking Gregg to introduce his finale. Gregg comes back out and introduces his finale, a restored, completely finished version of the wp>Roundhay Garden Scene, the oldest surviving film. Rather than extending the 2 second film in any way, it appears to just be four actors re-creating the poses seen in the film on loop, complete with a looping conversation. The credits begin to play as Tim says he needs to change as a person and apologize to Axiom and Manuel, leaving with G. as the special ends.
